There Are No Ghosts In Your Machine
I made a manuscript called, “There Are No Ghosts In Your Machine”.
There are No Ghosts in your Machines is a satirical story about a seemingly innocuous AI children’s toy being brought in front of the UN Security Council. My ethos for this story is like a person noticing that the smoke detectors in an important building are faulty, so they try to get the attention of the building managers. But they can't get the managers to believe that having faulty smoke detectors in a building storing flammable gas containers is really bad. So they light a small fire, which burns down a part of the building to finally get the damn managers to fix things and prevent a catastrophic explosion. It's absurd, its humor structural and underlying its setting; but in a way that feels cathartic and comments on the state of bureaucracy and the institutions of capitalism today. I was inspired by Donald Barthelme’s satirical story about Paul Klee and A Place Where Sadness Cannot Go by Laura Grothaus.
